Numbers that mattered: Match No. 50

Rajneesh Gupta

MUMBAI: Here are some numbers that sprang up during Delhi Daredevils victory over Rajasthan Royals in the DLF Indian Premier League in Johannesburg on Sunday

400 AB de Villiers became the second batsman after Matthew Hayden (546) to aggregate 400 runs in the IPL 2009. At the end of this match, he has scored 405 runs in 12 matches.

27 The unbroken partnership of 27 runs between Siddharth Trivedi and Munaf Patel is the best for the tenth wicket in all IPL games. The pair surpassed the 15-run stand between Ravindra Jadeja and Munaf Patel for Rajasthan Royals against Deccan Chargers at Kimberley on May 11.

25 Runs conceded by Munaf Patel in his fourth over – the third most expensive over in IPL 2009. The two most expensive overs in IPL 2009 came in the same match – between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers at Johannesburg on May 16, when RP Singh and Harmeet Singh conceded 28 runs in the 19th over. Deccan Chargers batsmen then scored 26 runs off the 20th over bowled by Mashrafe Mortaza.

23 Munaf Patel’s unbeaten innings of 23 off 10 balls is the highest by a No. 11 batsman in all IPL matches. This obliterated Makhaya Ntini's 11 (off 12 balls) for Chennai Super Kings against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur last year. It is, in fact, the second highest innings by a No. 11 batsman in all Twenty20 games, after Mark Cleary’s unbeaten 24 for Leicestershire against Durham in 2004.

4 Dinesh Karthik, with his four dismissals in the match, equalled the IPL record for most wicket-keeping dismissals in a match. Mumbai Indians’ Yogesh Takawale (vs. Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai last year) and Kolkata Kinight Riders’ Morne van Wyk (vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore in Durban on April 29, 2009) are the other keepers to effect four dismissals in an IPL match.
